Yes, it's another FTP client.

This one is being developed in Java and currently has the following features:

  • Modern three panel user interface
  • Bookmark library
  • Built-in mini text editor
  • Directory cache for faster server-side directory listing
  • Queue with resume support
  • Smart use of connections
  • Cross-platform support

This is currently on our to-do-list:

  • Segmented downloading
    Get a file in multiple "threads" to speed up transfers, if the server allows it.
  • FTP console for manual command entry
  • Support for other protocols
  • Peace on Earth

FTraQ is in development and there is not yet an official release. If you want to play with the code, see our hacking page.

FTraQ was originally developed as a university project by Steffen Sauder, Martin Wehner, Alex Jasse, Andreas Dribbusch, and Erik Möller. Now it is an open source project where everyone can participate. If you have any questions, feel free to ask (email Erik). Eventually, we hope to turn FTraQ into more than just an FTP client: The architecture is flexible, so that other protocols can be "plugged in" and used.

FTraQ is free software (definition) under the GNU General Public License (GPL, full text). If you are a developer, you can get the source code and change it to add, remove or modify its functionality. If you make the modified version available to others, you must do so under the terms of the GPL, so that they can also access and modify the source.
